WE DESIGN WHAT CANNOT BE SEEN.

ELLIS treats scent as a design material for people, rooms, objects, memories and identities.

Enter the lab
Scent, treated as material. Memory has a chemistry. An invisible form of design.
You cannot smell this website.

So we had to find another way: time, particles, pressure, colour, density and the small disturbance of a cursor moving through air.

Scent as material

SCENT IS
A MATERIAL.

We work with scent the way others work with light, stone, colour or sound. We compose atmosphere, memory and identity through materials that disappear the moment they are perceived.

CEDAR changes the field: slower, grounded, structured.

SPECULATIVE
SCENT
RECONSTRUCTION.

ELLIS studies historical spaces as atmospheric material. These are olfactory interpretations, not claims of exact reconstruction.

Versailles / 1784

Beeswax / Rose water / Powder / Oak / Smoke

Research note: a bright surface of polish and powder above older wood, sealed air and candle residue.

London Library / 1891

Old paper / Coal smoke / Wax / Leather / Rain

Research note: cold bindings, wet wool at the entrance and coal suspended in the upper air.

Venetian Palazzo / 1726

Stone / Salt air / Incense / Wood / Linen

Research note: mineral humidity, sun-warmed cloth and the soft trace of ritual smoke.
